Microsoft Office 365 Install With Product Key

If your purchase of Office or Microsoft 365 came with a product key, you enter your product key on one of the websites listed below for your product. After you enter your key, you can download and install Office, or you can renew your Microsoft 365 subscription.

If you see the error This product key has already been used when you enter your product key on www.office.com/setup or Microsoft365.com/setup, this means your product key has already been redeemed and is no longer needed.

When you install Office Professional Plus, Visio Professional, or Project Professional through your employer's Workplace Discount Program (formerly known as Home Use Program) benefit, you enter your product key after you install your product.

If you see a Let's get started screen with options to try, buy, or activate Office, this means that Office is installed on your new PC as a 1-month trial of Microsoft 365 Family. You won't receive a product key from your PC manufacturer unless you paid for an Office product key card. Instead, you can start a trial of Microsoft 365 Family, or buy Office.

If you bought Office Professional Plus, Visio Professional, or Project Professional through your employer's Microsoft Workplace Discount Program benefit, you'll need your product key to install Office on a PC. To locate your product key online, see Get your Workplace Discount Program product key.

If Office came pre-installed on your new device, and you see a yellow or red banner in an Office app that says PRODUCT NOTICE Most of the features of have been disabled because it hasn't been activated, you must start a new Microsoft 365 Family trial, sign in with a Microsoft account that's associated with Office, or buy Office. Instead, for Microsoft 365, Office 2021, Office 2019 and Office 2016, you can view the Microsoft account that Office belongs to. This account takes the place of your product key and can be used to reinstall Office from the Microsoft account, Services & subscriptions page and to activate Office.

If you bought Office Home & Student, Office Home & Business, Office Professional, or individual Office apps from the Microsoft Store and you haven't installed them yet, you can also view their product keys and install them from the Microsoft Store.

Locate the Office one-time purchase or individual Office app, and then select Install Office to view your product key (this doesn't actually install Office). Note that this product key won't match the product key shown in the Microsoft account, Services & subscriptions page. This is normal.

To buy a brand new copy of Office, or start a new Microsoft 365 subscription, you can buy an Office product key card from a retailer. You can redeem your key at to set up your Microsoft account and install Office. You can also buy a digital download directly from the Microsoft Store at www.microsoftstore.com. You'll receive a product key if you buy a one-time purchase Office or individual Office apps, but you won't need or receive a product key for Microsoft 365.

To renew your Microsoft 365 subscription, you can buy an Microsoft 365 product key card from a retailer and redeem the key at You can also renew your subscription online, without a product key, at -renew-your-office-365-subscription.

If Office is prompting you for a product key, and you want to buy a product key to activate Office, it's better to uninstall your current version of Office and then buy and install a new version of Office from the Microsoft Store. This way you can be sure that Office will activate successfully.

To use Microsoft 365 on your new device, you can activate Microsoft 365 as a 1-month trial of Microsoft 365 Family. You can also buy Microsoft 365, add Microsoft 365 to an existing Microsoft 365 subscription, or enter a product key from a new product key card. If you have an older copy of Microsoft 365, you can install that instead.

A digital product key is transmitted to your PC, so you won't need or receive a printed product key. You activate Microsoft 365 by signing in with a Microsoftaccount. If we detect your Microsoft account, we'll show it on this screen. After you sign in, your product is added to your Microsoft account, so that you can reinstall it later, or manage your new subscription, without a product key.

If you bought a new Microsoft 365 product key card, or you received a product key when you bought Microsoft 365through an online store, go to Office.com/setup or Microsoft365.com/setup and follow the on-screen prompts. This is a one-time process that adds your new product to your Microsoft account. After you redeem your key, you can install Office.

To use KMS, you need to have a KMS host available on your local network. Computers that activate with a KMS host need to have a specific product key. This key is sometimes referred to as the KMS client key, but it is formally known as a Microsoft Generic Volume License Key (GVLK). Computers that are running volume licensing editions of Windows Server and Windows client are, by default, KMS clients with no extra configuration needed as the relevant GVLK is already there.

If you want to activate Windows without a KMS host available and outside of a volume-activation scenario (for example, you're trying to activate a retail version of Windows client), these keys will not work. You will need to use another method of activating Windows, such as using a MAK, or purchasing a retail license. Get help to find your Windows product key and learn about genuine versions of Windows.

If you are converting a computer from a KMS host, MAK, or retail edition of Windows to a KMS client, install the applicable product key (GVLK) from the list below. To install a client product key, open an administrative command prompt on the client, and run the following command and then press Enter:

Most software that you buy directly from Microsoft, like Office, Windows, and Xbox games, comes as a digital download that you can download, install, or reinstall. After you purchase software, the download will be shown in your Order history. To find a specific download, sign in to the Order history page with the Microsoft account you used to make the purchase. Find the software, and then select Product key/Install.

If you don't see Install, select the product name. It will take you to the product page. If the button that was previously labeled Buy is now Install, select it to automatically download and install your app or game.

If you bought boxed software that we shipped to you, Order history can't store the product key until you install the software for the first time. Follow the installation instructions that came with the boxed software.

If you have a subscription for Azure AD Premium P1 and above, or an edition of Office 365 Enterprise E3 or Office 365 A3 or Office 365 GCC G3 and above, you can use group-based licensing with Azure AD. You can assign one or more product licenses to a group, and Azure AD ensures that the licenses are assigned to all members of the group. Any new members who join the group are assigned the appropriate licenses. When they leave the group, those licenses are removed. Microsoft 365 Apps communicates with the Office Licensing Service and the Activation and Validation Service to obtain and activate a product key. Each day, or each time the user logs on to their computer, the computer connects to the Activation and Validation Service to verify the license status and extend the product key. As long as the computer can connect to the internet at least once every 30 days, Microsoft 365 Apps remains fully functional. If the computer goes offline for more than 30 days, Microsoft 365 Apps enters reduced functionality mode until the next time a connection can be made. To get Microsoft 365 Apps fully functional again, the user can connect to the internet and let the Activation and Validation Service reactivate the installation, though in some cases the user may have to sign back in first.

Users can install Microsoft 365 Apps on a new device without being prompted to deactivate it on another device. If a user has more than 10 devices with Microsoft 365 Apps activated, then the device that hasn't been used for the longest amount of time is automatically deactivated.

After you download the Office Deployment Tool, double-click on the officedeploymenttool executable (.exe) file to extract the ODT files. When you're finished, you should have several files: setup.exe and some sample configuration.xml files. Once you have a copy of the ODT, you need to create a configuration.xml file. You can create multiple configuration.xml files to be used with the ODT. For example, you would create a configuration.xml file to download and install the 64-bit version of Office Professional Plus 2019 in English and a different configuration.xml file to install the 32-bit version of Visio Professional 2019 in French. When you run the ODT from an elevated command prompt, you specify which configuration.xml file to use.

Instead of using a text editor to create your configuration.xml, we recommend that you use the Office Customization Tool (OCT). The OCT provides a web-based interface for making your selections and creating your configuration.xml file to be used with the Office Deployment Tool. Please note that this is different than the Office Customization Tool that you might have used in the past to install volume licensed versions of Office that used Windows Installer (MSI) as the installation technology.
